In Week 8 PLFA II action, the North Division standings were left in a mess after the Angels came back to shock the Seahawks B team in overtime in Gdynia, while the Saints remained the only unbeaten team in the South, with the Devils B team and the Ravens both winning to stay just a half-game back. In the fifth game of the weekend, the Bydgoszcz Raiders got their first victory. Here is a short recap of each of the five games played over the weekend.

Toruń Angels 22, Gdynia Seahawks B 16, (in Gdynia)

The Angels needed overtime to hand the Seahawks B team its first loss of the season, a 22-16 stunner that left four teams in a tie at 2-1 atop the PLFA II North Division. Patryk Dębowski's 70-yard interception return in the first overtime series was the winner for the visitors.

Both defenses played well in the first half, whose only score was an 8-yard touchdown run by Bartosz Król in the second quarter. The Seahawks converted a 2-point try after that run to lead 8-0 at halftime. The Angels intercepted Aleksander Kordyś twice in the first half, but they were unable to convert either of those turnovers into points.

The Angels got to within a point in the third quarter when Łukasz Kuśmirek scored a 3-yard touchdown, but Król scored again a bit later to give Gdynia a 16-7 lead. Toruń's comeback was led by Jakub Mazan, whose 40-yard touchdown got the Angels to within a field goal, a margin they erased with a 25-yard Bartosz Mróz kick in the fourth quarter. The Seahawks had a chance to win at the end of regulation, but were stopped at the Toruń 7-yard line.

And so, Gdynia missed a chance to take control of the North halfway through the schedule. The Seahawks will next visit one of the other 2-1 teams, the Szczecin Cougars, on July 6. The Angels will also be in action on that Saturday, hosting the 1-2 Bydgoszcz Raiders.

Bydgoszcz Raiders 20, Słupsk Griffons 14 (in Bydgoszcz)

Two winless teams put on a good show for the fans in Bydgoszcz, where the Raiders came from behind in the fourth quarter to defeat the Griffons 20-14 and win their first game of the season. Paweł Karandyszewski caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Jakub Kołodziejczyk late in the fourth quarter to give Bydgoszcz the win.

Jakub Widawski scored two touchdowns for the Raiders, including a 14-yard run that tied the game in the fourth quarter. The Griffons had fought back from an 8-0 halftime deficit to take a 14-8 lead with a 60-yard touchdown run by Dawid Czauderna and a 16-yard touchdown run by Kamil Wysocki.

The Raiders currently occupy sixth place in the North Division, ahead of only the still-winless Griffons. Both teams will be on the road for their next games, with Bydgoszcz traveling to Toruń to face the Angels on July 6 and Słupsk visiting the Sopot Sabercats the next day.

Wrocław Devils B 8, Rybnik Thunders 6 (in Wrocław)

Neither team got out of double-digits in the lowest-scoring game so far in the PLFA II season in Wrocław, where the Devils defeated the Rybnik Thunders 8-6. Turnovers were the big story of the game, with the Thunders losing three interceptions and two fumbles in the loss, while taking the ball away from the Devils on only one occurrence.

Tomasz Soska gave the Devils the lead in the second quarter with a 15-yard touchdown reception. In what turned out to be the most important play of the game, he then added the two-point conversion as well. Maciej Krakowczyk scored for the Thunders early in the fourth quarter, but their own two-point try was stuffed to leave them trailing by a deuce. The game ended, fittingly, when the Devils intercepted Rybnik on their final offensive drive.

The Thunders have played three games so far this year and they have not won any of them. They will try to break into the win column on July 6, when they host the 1-2 Sucha Beskidzka Broncos. The Devils, meanwhile, are a half-game back of first place in the division with a record of 3-1. They will play the only team ahead of them in the standings, the Częstochowa Saints, on the road on July 7.

Częstochowa Saints 26, Skoczów Pretorians 12 (in Częstochowa)

The Saints kept the lead in the PLFA II South Division and maintained their undefeated record in a 26-12 victory over the Skoczów Pretorians on Sunday. Częstochowa trailed early in the game, but scored the last 19 points to come back and finally put the game away.

Jacek Wróblewski put the Saints ahead early in the first quarter with a 10-yard touchdown run, but the Pretorians quickly went on top with touchdowns by Kamil Baranowski and Przemysław Lanc. They would not score again in the last three quarters. Aleksander Mieruszyński's 21-yard touchdown run put the Saints back ahead in the second quarter, and they would go on to add two interception return touchdowns to the final tally.

The Saints will now move on to play what will probably be the two most important games of the regular season, starting with a home contest on July 7 against the 3-1 Wrocław Devils B team. That will be followed by a visit to the 3-1 Globinit Rzeszów Ravens. The Pretorians will look to get their playoff chase back on track with a win over the Olkusz Silvers at home on June 30.

Globinit Rzeszów Ravens 55, Sucha Beskidzka Broncos 13 (in Sucha Beskidzka)

The Ravens blew open a close game with 41 second-half points on their way to their third win of the season, a 55-13 smashing of the home Sucha Beskidzka Broncos on Sunday. Daniel Krawiec, back from a three-month absence, had four passing touchdowns to go with one on the ground for Rzeszów.

The Ravens took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, only to see the Broncos get back to within a point early in the third. Bartłomiej Pelcel scored on a 40-yard run for Sucha Beskidzka shortly after halftime, at which point Rzeszów then ran off the game's final 41 points. Six different players scored touchdowns for the Ravens in the second half, including Michał Tittinger, who had a pair of touchdown receptions in the contest.

The Broncos dropped to 1-2 and into fifth place in the PLFA II South Division. Their next game comes on the road on July 6, at the winless Rybnik Thunders. Rzeszów is currently 3-1, in a tie for second place in the division. They will be in action next on July 7, playing their last road game of the regular season in Skoczów against the 1-1 Pretorians.
