In Week 7 PLFA II action, the Sopot Sabercats came up with 20 fourth-quarter points to record a come-from-behind victory over the Szczecin Cougars in the weekend's most exciting game, while the BEagles stayed unbeaten with a close win against the Crusaders. In other Central Division games, the Lakers and the Królewscy both scored shutout wins over Warsaw opponents. Here is a brief recap of each of the four games played over the weekend.

Sopot Sabercats 46, Szczecin Cougars 28, (in Sopot)

The Sabercats scored the final 28 points of the game, getting three second-half touchdown passes from Luke Zetazate, to erase a 10-point deficit and beat the Szczecin Cougars 46-28 in Sopot on Saturday. Przemysław Portalski had two touchdown receptions for the Sabercats, including the go-ahead score early in the fourth quarter.

Sopot jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Cougars dominated the rest of the first half and put two scoring drives together to take a 14-12 lead into the locker room. Remigiusz Borejszo scored twice for Szczecin to lengthen the lead to 28-18 in the middle of the third quarter. Unfortunately for the Cougars, Adrian Abraham returned the kickoff that came between those two scores the length of the field for a touchdown to keep Sopot within striking distance.

Portalski caught a 25-yard touchdown late in the third quarter and an 18-yarder early in the fourth to close the gap and finally put the Sabercats on top for good. Dawid Bielicki then deflated Szczecin's comeback hopes when he recovered a fumble in the Cougar end zone, and Bartosz Romanowski finally put the game on ice with a 12-yard touchdown reception.

The Sabercats and the Cougars are now tied in the standings at 2-1, a half-game behind the Gdynia Seahawks B team in the PLFA II North Division. The Seahawks will be the Cougars' next opponent, in Szczecin on July 6. The Sabercats will have a theoretically easier task in their next game, against the winless Słupsk Griffons in Sopot on July 7.

Warsaw BEagles 25, Warszawa Crusaders 14 (in Warsaw)

After two blowout losses, the Crusaders got much closer to their first PLFA victory but still came up short, falling to the BEagles 25-14 on Sunday. Piotr Pamulak had two touchdowns for the BEagles, who maintained a share of first place in the Central Division with the victory.

Pamulak got the BEagles on the board first with a 10-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, but the Crusaders went into a surprising lead early in the second on Bartosz Bujak's short touchdown run and a two-point conversion. Pamulak then scored again to put the BEagles back ahead, and they would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.

In fact, the BEagles went on to score 18 unanswered points, putting the game out of reach by the middle of the fourth quarter. Rafał Zawada had a touchdown reception and Jakub Chrzanowski scored on a 10-yard run to extend the cushion to 25-7 before the Crusaders made the score a bit more respectable with a short Marcin Kot touchdown run.

The BEagles will be at home for their next game, against the 0-3 Warszawa Werewolves on June 30, before consecutive games with the two other two teams that currently top the Central standings. Having played their first three games at home, the Crusaders will be on the road for the rest of the season, starting on June 29 against the Warsaw Spartans B team.

Olsztyn Lakers 24, Warsaw Spartans B 0 (in Olsztyn)

After losing their first 12 PLFA games, the Lakers have now won two in a row after beating the Spartans B team 24-0 at home on Sunday. Olsztyn got their first-ever shutout the same way they got their first victory earlier in the month, by wearing down the opposing defense with a bruising running game led by 140-kg fullback Przemysław Bekier.

Piotr Zawadzki scored first for the Lakers, running 15 yards for a touchdown early in the second quarter. Bekier then scored from 5 yards out to make it 14-0 at halftime. Olsztyn got two scores from the defense, a safety and a 99-yard Paweł Banaszyński interception return, in the second half to put the game away.

Although the Lakers evened their record at 2-2 with the victory, they still have three 2-0 teams ahead of them in the Central Division playoff race. The Lakers will next play the 0-3 Warszawa Werewolves on July 27 in Olsztyn. The Spartans also have a .500 record, but with only two games behind them. They will also host an 0-3 team, the Warszawa Crusaders, in their next game, which comes on June 29.

Warszawa Królewscy 39, Warsaw Werewolves 0 (in Warsaw)

The Królewscy and the Werewolves met twice in PLFA II play last season, with both games ending in shutouts for the Królewscy. Their first meeting in 2013 turned out much the same, with the Królewscy scoring all their points in the first half in a 39-0 triumph. The Królewscy have now outscored the Werewolves 123-0 in the three games between the teams.

Osman Hózman-Mirza-Sulkiewicz set the tone on the first play from scrimmage, forcing Dawid Szurmiej to intentionally ground the ball at his own 1-yard line. The Werewolves fumbled the ball on the next play, and Adam Rogowski recovered in the end zone to give the Królewscy a 7-0 lead just 12 seconds into the game.

Karol Żak threw three touchdown passes for the Królewscy, including a 55-yarder to Mateusz Poneta that made it 14-0. Poneta would add a second touchdown reception later in the game, while Hózman-Mirza-Sulkiewicz had an interception return for a score to round out a good defensive effort. The Werewolves threatened to score twice in the second half, but they were turned away once on an interception and once on downs after reaching the 1-yard line.

The Werewolves remain winless in 2013, having lost their first three games of the year. They will try again for their first win on June 30, when they visit the Warsaw BEagles. The 2-0 Królewscy, tied with two other teams for the lead in the Central Division, will next battle the Pabianice Wilki on June 29. The Wilki are one of those two other remaining unbeaten teams.
