Wrocław Panthers (8-0) vs. Gdynia Seahawks (6-2), Łódź, Sunday, June 25, 5:30 PM

The biggest game on the Polish League of American Football calendar comes to Łódź for the first time this Sunday, when the Wrocław Panthers take on the Gdynia Seahawks in SuperFinal XII. Kickoff is set for 6:00 PM at Łódź Municipal Stadium (al. Piłsudskiego 138), with the opening ceremonies beginning a half-hour earlier. The Panthers and Seahawks have combined to win the last three Topliga championships.

Wrocław and Gdynia opened the Topliga regular season together on March 25, in a game that the Panthers ran away with by a score of 35-7. The win gave Wrocław a 6-4 edge in the all-time series, a record that includes a 56-13 victory in last year's title game. The Seahawks defeated the Panthers in the previous two championship games, winning 42-31 in 2014 in Gdynia and 28-21 in 2015 in Wrocław.

The Panthers come into SuperFinal XII undefeated, after winning all six of their contests in the regular season, a postseason game against the Białystok Lowlanders that clinched the #1 playoff seed and a semifinal against the Warsaw Eagles. Wrocław knocked the Eagles out of the postseason tournament for the third straight year, running wild in a 49-0 victory that gave the Panthers their first shutout over the team from the capital, as well as the largest margin of victory in their eight-game win streak against the Eagles.

The Seahawks took a more roundabout route to the title game, muddling through the first half of the season before catching fire to win their last three regular season games by a combined score of 153-27. That was good enough to secure them the third seed in the playoffs and a home matchup against Husaria Szczecin in the wild-card round. The Seahawks beat a spirited Husaria squad 35-19 in that game, before traveling to Białystok to defeat the second-seeded Lowlanders 48-26 in the semifinals.

Both teams are led on offense by American quarterbacks. For Wrocław, the remarkably consistent Timothy Morovick led the Topliga in combined touchdowns with 21, despite playing in just six games and sitting out the second half of a number of blowout victories. The midseason turnaround for Gdynia, meanwhile, coincided with the arrival of Joseph Bradley, who finished off the Lowlanders in the semifinal with a spectacular 39-yard heave to Jakub Mazan in the end zone. Bradley's second-half tear gave him the league high in touchdown passes this season (17).

Game day will include a pre-game picnic on the stadium promenade, organized with funding from the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, while the opening ceremonies will feature performances by the Air Force Orchestra of Poznań and the Warsaw Elite Cheerleaders. The game itself will be broadcast live on Polsat Sport. Those who make it to the game in person will add to the more than 66,000 spectators who have attended the last five Topliga SuperFinals. Tickets for SuperFinal XII start at just 15 PLN and are available at
