Warsaw Sharks 28, Warsaw Dukes 13 (in Warsaw)

The Warsaw Sharks defense dominated the second half of the first PLFA I semifinal on Saturday, keeping the Warsaw Dukes off the board after the intermission to secure a 28-13 victory that puts the Sharks in the PLFA I championship game. In the process of booking their spot in the title game, the Sharks also guaranteed themselves a return to top-flight football in the 2018 Topliga competition. The Sharks will travel to Krakow on June 17 to face the Kings in a championship matchup that pits a pair of teams that have yet to lose in 2017.

The turning point of Saturday's contest was a blocked punt in the third quarter by Osman Hózman-Mirza-Sulkiewicz when the Dukes were buried deep in their own territory. Krzysztof Tomczak picked up the loose ball and took it the few remaining yards into the end zone for the touchdown, and Jędrzej Kubica threw a two-point conversion pass to Mateusz Poneta on a trick play to give the Sharks a 9-point advantage.

The Sharks had led 14-13 at halftime on the strength of 90-yard and 65-yard touchdown receptions by Karol Kowalczyk. Those big plays tarnished an otherwise solid game by a Dukes defense that actually got the game's first points when Jan Kadzikiewicz intercepted a Luke Zetazate pass on the Sharks' opening drive and returned it 25 yards for a score. Zetazate put the icing on the cake for the Sharks midway through the fourth quarter when he threw his third touchdown pass of the game, a 20-yard strike to Jan Omelańczuk.

Krakow Kings 42, AZS UWM Olsztyn Lakers 0 (in Krakow)

The Krakow Kings showed that their defense's feat of allowing the fewest points in the PLFA I regular season was no fluke, as they shut out the visiting AZS UWM Olsztyn Lakers 42-0 in the second PLFA I semifinal playoff game on Sunday. The Kings, who finished the regular season undefeated before blowing the Lakers off the field, earned a spot in the 2018 Topliga along with the right to host the Warsaw Sharks in the PLFA I championship game on June 17.

The Lakers offense, which came into the game having finished in the top three in scoring during the regular season, could find no traction against a Kings defense that recorded three consecutive shutouts earlier in the year. Marcin Masłon opened the scoring with a 3-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, and Szymon Wesołowski added a pair of touchdown runs in the second quarter to make it 21-0 going into the halftime break.

Masłon would strike again in the third quarter, matching Wesołowski with a second touchdown run that increased the Krakow advantage to 29-0. Filip Mościcki then got the fifth rushing touchdown of the day for the Kings, a 1-yarder early in the fourth quarter, and Mateusz Boksa finished things off with an interception return for a score.

Saturday, June 17, Time TBA: Krakow Kings (9-0, 1st South) vs. Warsaw Sharks (9-0, 1st North)
