Eagles win to move on

Warsaw Eagles 42, Husaria Szczecin 0 (in Warsaw)

After a season that has been trying at times, the Warsaw Eagles maintained their status as the only team to make the PLFA playoffs in every year since the league's inception with a 42-0 home victory over Husaria Szczecin on Saturday. The Eagles qualify as the #4 seed, meaning they will face the top-seeded Wrocław Panthers on July 2 in the first Topliga semifinal game. The winner of that game will advance to SuperFinal XI in Białystok on July 16.

Both teams came in with questions at quarterback due to injury. Mario Brown took the helm for Husaria in place of Dylann Rauch and he was promptly terrorized by Antoni Omondi, who racked up three interceptions in the first half. The Eagles, who tested regular quarterback Gregory Watson at wide receiver and defensive back, relied mainly on the rushing game to run up a 35-0 halftime lead.

Running back Charles McCrea put up the first three touchdowns for the Eagles, before ending the first half with a 95-yard punt return. Konrad Paszkiewicz had the other touchdown before the break, getting on the board with a 53-yard fumble return. Backup signal caller Karol Żak threw a short touchdown pass to Witold Szpotański in the third quarter to complete the scoring. Husaria finished the season with three wins and five losses, officially matching last year's fifth-place Topliga finish.

Eagles (5-3): at Wrocław Panthers (7-1), July 2 (Topliga semifinal #1)
Husaria (3-5): season complete, remain in Topliga for 2017 season
