Eagles take Warsaw derby

Andre Whyte scored three touchdowns on Saturday, including one on a 37-yard reception that broke open a tight game early in the fourth quarter, as the Eagles beat the Sharks 52-14 to win their fourth consecutive Warsaw derby. The Eagles got touchdowns on defense and on special teams in the win, which moved them to 3-2 for the season.

Gregory Watson threw three touchdown passes for the Eagles, starting with a 33-yard strike to Tomasz Ochnio in the first quarter. Whyte then scored on a two-point conversion play to make it 8-0 after twelve minutes. Giorgio Bryant tied the game early in the second quarter with a 15-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion of his own, but back-to-back scores by Whyte later in the quarter made it 22-8 in favor of the Eagles at halftime.

Neither offense scored in the third quarter, which nonetheless was an eventful one. Konrad Paszkiewicz increased the Eagles lead to 22 points when he ran back a blocked punt for a score, and the Sharks subsequently got back to within two scores when Tomasz Sętkiewicz fell on a fumble in the Eagles end zone. The Eagles defense got into the act in the fourth quarter, when Charles McCrea recovered a fumble and ran it back 48 yards for a touchdown after the game was already well in hand.

Eagles (3-2): at Gdynia Seahawks (5-0), May 22
Sharks (1-4): at Primacol Białystok Lowlanders (3-1), May 20
