Eagles shut out Tigers

The Warsaw Eagles visited Juvenia Stadium on Sunday afternoon riding a two-game losing streak after having started the season 4-0. The two-time champions bounced back in a big way, sending the Dom-Bud Krakow Tigers to their fifth straight defeat in a 52-0 rout. Tyrone Landrum and Piotr Osuchowski each scored a pair of touchdowns for the victors.

The Eagles had no trouble taking advantage of a banged-up Tigers squad that had been so depleted by injuries that several players had to play both ways. By the time the whistle blew to start the second half, the Eagles were already ahead 45-0 and they were able to rest their first-teamers ahead of their big matchup with the Wrocław Devils in a few weeks.

Kevin Lynch threw for three touchdowns in the first quarter alone, the initial one going 33 yards to Landrum. Grzegorz Janiak then ran for a score before Jakub Zduń hauled in the second Lynch touchdown. Landrum finally put a cap on the quarter with a 77-yard touchdown reception. He then stepped aside to let other players, such as Michał Kozdrój, who scored his first touchdown of the season on a 53-yard run, have the stage.

The only good news for the Tigers on the weekend was that the Wrocław Devils managed to stave off Kozły Poznań's upset bid, leaving Krakow in position to contend for the final playoff spot. The Tigers are just 1-6 on the season, and they currently sit in a last-place tie with the AZS Silesia Miners. Still, both teams are just a game back of Kozły with three left to play.

The Topliga takes a break next weekend, and when it returns the Tigers will be keeping a close eye on events in Katowice, where the Rebels and Kozły will meet. Unfortunately for Krakow, they will be making the long trip to Gdynia to face the first-place Seahawks the next day, June 3. The Eagles will also be in action that Sunday, against the Devils as mentioned above. The Eagles are a game behind the Devils and the Seahawks, and they'll need a win on June 3 to have any hope of snatching the top seed for the playoffs.

TOPLIGA WEEK 8 SCHEDULE (HOME TEAM FIRST):
Saturday, June 2, 4:00 PM: AZS Silesia Rebels (1-6) vs. Kozły Poznań (2-5)
Sunday, June 3, Time TBA: Gdynia Seahawks (6-1) vs. Dom-Bud Krakow Tigers (1-6)
